Be prepared for a shock, these annual totals are really big radiation numbers. The numbers are your annual exposure to the Rad. How much you already absorbed is really hard to find out. The Nuke Labs know how to do it, of course; but they aren’t telling unclassified residents.

YRTW ELE is published every two weeks on Saturday. ELE is an acronym for “Extinction Level Event.” The amount of Rad in the air now Dooms Humanity to a relatively quick Extinction. It’s time to move on. All I can say about the Rad of the past is that the Rad Lethality gets worse the longer the Rad has time to “cook”. This Property of Rad cannot be changed.
All of life on Earth is radioactive by now and it only took about 70 years. This a planetary Death Sentence for all. Everyone is included. There is no way out.
Lethality
There are 1,946 radioactive isotopes according to the Oak Ridge Nuclear Weapons Lab. In the Earth’s atmosphere all are produced by nuclear weapons and nuclear power plants. There are no other sources.
Lethality is the power to kill and injure. It exists and is measured by humans in deaths and in calculations.
The perfectly odd thing about radiation is the Lethality goes up while the radioactivity goes down. That has killed many a person who only counted the radioactivity.
This is perfectly logical when you recognize radioactive Isotopes change from one Isotope to another for billions of years. The Isotope Uranium changes to Plutonium and many others.
Plutonium is the ultimate killing machine. So bad that the Medical Director of the Livermore Nuclear Weapons Lab, Dr. John Gofman, said “Plutonium 239 is the most dangerous substance in the universe.”
Lethality is why the United States decided to make bombs from Plutonium and to drop them on humans. Nuke weapons are a good way to kill lots of people.

The ’50 miles’ is merely what the US Government and the NRC suggested people should evacuate in Fukushima. Of course, both entities are merely puppets for the pro-nukers. The ‘real immediate danger’ for a Station Blackout – MELTDOWN – for one reactor is a minimum 300 miles radius; more in the area of the prevailing wind. US Census Bureau has documented 18,00,000+ (18 million) population in the Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan Areas, with Orange County at merely 3,055,745 as of July 2011 (probably reduced since Fukushima, will have to wait for future stats.)

What we know, lessons learned, from history (near and far) is as follows:

Only moving the waste to an isolated location (which doesn’t exist) AND shutting the plants down gives us any sort of reasonable guarantee, but then you still need: A safe way to store the waste (doesn’t exist), and a safe way to transport it there (also doesn’t exist).”
259 METRIC TONNES (569,800 lbs) of Fukushima Nuclear Fuel have been vaporized since 3.11.11, and that disaster is STILL IN PROGRESS, CONTAMINATING (and killing!) THE PLANET.
10,000 METRIC TONNES (22,000,000 lbs) of Fukushima Nuclear Fuel are alleged (per the former Japanese Nuclear Authority) to be still in fuel pools that are in various conditions of damage and destruction, in and en route to “China Syndrome”…. Global catastrophe still in progress, and official positions, internationally and domestically are ‘what radiation? shhhhhhhh….we’re keeping it from the stooopid people’ and ‘smiling people don’t get radiation poisoning’ and well, ‘there’s no IMMEDIATE danger’
57 METRIC TONNES (125,400 lbs) of Chernobyl Nuclear Fuel were vaporized, contaminating (and killing) globally…. with another 143 METRIC TONNES (314,600 lbs) of Nuclear Fuel ‘entombed’ for indefinite detention….
That’s a total of 10,459 metric tonnes, or 23,009,800 pounds of lethal nuke fuel, with no other purpose than to expedite shortened life spans to the many, around the world. That DOES NOT COUNT Three Mile Island, San Onofre, and all global nuclear reactors, that LEAK, ALL THE TIME.

“NOTE: Here are the 14 most important questions that the DAB Safety Team feels must be answered before the NRC, Atomic Safety Licensing Board, NRC Offices of Nuclear Reactor Regulations and Nuclear Regulatory Research can complete their investigation regarding the reasonableness of the actions of SCE with respect to SONGS steam generator replacements and their subsequent safe operation:
1 – According to some Newspaper Comments and Industry Reports in 2004, the going price for each of the four 620 Ton CE Replacement Steam Generator (RSG’s) was estimated to be between 175-200 Million Dollars (Per Piece). How did SCE CNO/President in 2004 convince MHI to build such large, complicated, innovative and complex steam generators for 569 million dollars, which is almost 130 million dollars short of the market price and funds approved by CPUC?
Note: The steam generator project execution began in 2004 after a SCE cost-benefit analysis, which revealed that replacement of major parts and components would save $1bn for Southern California Edison customers during the plant’s license period. Instead, the ratepayers have lost $1bn in less than 2 years due to SCE’s in-house design team’s mistakes.
2 – Since MHI only had experience building Fort Calhoun’s tiny RSG’s (less than 320 tons), how did the SCE Engineers Technically Qualify MHI for the much larger RSGs?
3 – Which other utilities’ QA Programs did SCE use to approve Mitsubishi’s quality assurance program? Fort Calhoun? French? Belgian? Japanese?
4 – Why didn’t SCE apply to NRC for increasing the plugging limit for the Original CE Generators, so they would have had more time to think, research and not rush according to the CPUC?
5 – Which Utilities’ CE Replacement Generators did SCE benchmark to develop such detailed design and performance specifications or did they just modify the CE Old Generator Specifications with New Industry Information? Were the SCE engineers, who wrote, checked and approved the new specifications steam generator experts or was another steam generator expert in the background, who directed all the SCE work?
6 – Where did all the claims of challenges, reward, innovations and teamwork between SCE and MHI go wrong?
7 – Were the SCE Engineers sent to Japan to check MHI work and approve documents/test results qualified in that exact field, or they were just in training and/or sightseeing?
8 – Who at SCE made the decision to make all these numerous design changes and determined the changes were “Like for Like” and did not need a Licensing Amendment Process?
9 – Which SCE Engineer(s) provided all these changes, information and documents to which NRC Engineer(s), who then made the decision that it was OK to proceed without a full Licensing Amendment Process?
10 – Which SCE engineer(s) approved/validated the MHI Thermal-Hydraulic FIT-III FIVATS code Inputs and Calculations?
11 – To make up for the 10% heat transfer equivalent by switching from Alloy 600 to Alloy 690, SCE needed to add 935 tubes, but they only added 377 tubes. What happened to the balance of 558 tubes? Did the SCE Engineers tell MHI to increase the length of 9727 tubes and by how much, to make up for the 558 tubes?
12 – Why didn’t the SCE Engineers question/independently verify/validate the MHI benchmarking of the FIT-III thermal-hydraulic model?
13 – Why didn’t the SCE engineers contact their counterparts at PVNGS for information/advice, since PVNGS has the largest CE Replacement Generators (800 Tons) in the world, were built in early 2001-2005 and are currently still in operation?
14 – Were the original CE Steam Generators and new replacement generators exact in Thermal Output (MWt) or were there “minor” differences?”

Dricks is the Region IV Public Affairs Officer for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). He’s based in Arlington, Texas, nearly 1500 miles away from Southern California. Half a country, and half a world away…
Mr. Dricks demeans the Sandia National Laboratory study in 1982 which predicted 50,000 deaths in the event of a meltdown at San Onofre. The population of this area has grown by a third since that study and the estimated death toll would now be far higher. It seems disingenuous for the NRC to cherry pick studies of the U.S. Dept. of Energy National Laboratories and pick reports which glorify nuclear power and criticize those that warn of the dangers of nuclear power. My commentary was limited to 500 words and I could not mention many additional studies including those that predict a million eventual cancer deaths in Europe from Chernobyl and in Japan from Fukushima.
Mr. Dricks is technically correct that the President picks the NRC commissioners. What he doesn’t say is that all commissioners are first vetted by the nuclear industry. No commissioner is ever nominated let alone approved unless he or she is already a proven cheerleader for the nuclear industry.
Mr. Dricks employs more deception when he claims that the NRC is not funded by the nuclear industry. The fact that the money trail goes from the industry to the treasury back to the NRC means only that the NRC is doing summersaults trying to conceal its actual funding. The NRC representative at the San Clemente hearings was quick to admit that 90% of NRC funding comes from the nuclear industry.
Finally, Mr. Dricks claims that highly radioactive nuclear fuel is safe because it is in pools or in temporary concrete casks. If anything goes wrong with the pumps, pipelines, switches, valves, power supplies, or concrete pools, we have a nuclear catastrophe. The Veterans Today Military and Foreign Affairs Journal reported that the radiation released by Fukushima is the equivalent of 66,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs.”

“Every time an atom is split for energy, two atoms (on average) of lethal hazardous waste are created. (I know of no other industrial process so capable of creating more of a mess than it starts with than the nuclear process.)
So a pair of 1,000-megawatt reactors is creating an unbelievably large quantity of hazardous poisons every single day! 250 pounds per day per reactor, according to the industry itself (and that’s only the “high level” radioactive waste. It produces many times more than that of so-called “low-level” rad waste every day, too. And the only difference between “high-level” and “low-level” is the dilution level — NOT the lethality level! One atom can kill you, but it’s not very likely to. That’s a statistical fact. However, there are about a thousand times MORE decays per second in one gram of tritium than there are stars in the Milky Way! And tritium is so hazardous that a nuclear reactor is “ONLY” allowed to release about one thirtieth of a teaspoon of tritium per year! And that must be diluted in billions of gallons of air and/or water as it is released. (In actuality, the average known tritium releases are usually several times higher than the permissible levels, but the additional releases are considered “exceptions” even though they generally happen at every power plant on a regular basis.)
Radioactive noble gases, radioactive strontium, iodine, cesium, plutonium… These radioactive versions of normal elements, and new (manmade) elements, are not healthy for your body — or your baby’s body. They masquerade as safe, stable, normal elements until the moment of radioactive decay. Then they send out a huge (on an atomic scale) burst of energy, change into a different (often also radioactive) element, and destroy whatever they were a part of at the time — a water molecule perhaps, or perhaps they were one atom in a DNA strand of billions of precisely-placed atoms. Or maybe the energy burst destroyed some DNA it was near, but not a part of…
So-called “spent” fuel is the most hazardous stuff on earth. We make it, but we have no place to put it.
What was once raw ore in the earth, was first processed into a ceramic pellet and still not very hazardous but no picnic, has become a problem with no solution — a hazard so lethal you can’t stand next to it without many feet of steel and concrete, or lead. You can’t use it for anything. It would cost a fortune to try to get rid of by trucking it somewhere (no one wants it), rocketing it to the sun (way, way, WAY too risky and equally too expensive), burying it at sea (uh oh, that’s been tried, it failed miserably…) or anywhere else… nobody wants it, no place on earth is stable enough, far enough away from people and wildlife, isn’t a source of drinking water or anything else we need (such as minerals), and yet is somehow close enough that we can safely transport the waste from hither to yon a hundred thousand times across the country, and many thousands of times from San Onofre Nuclear Waste Generating Station alone.
There’s no such place.
Instead, they are building dry cask storage. Hidden from I-5 highway view but only a few hundred feet away, nestled carefully behind the bluffs and the (14′) sea wall, are dozens and dozens of “dry casks” which contain this deadly waste (along with spent fuel pools and the reactors themselves). More are being added as the reactors continue to operate. The waste has to go somewhere, but it has nowhere to go. So it ends up in dry casks. Deadly, silent, waiting to make their own version of Fukushima…
The dry casks are carefully sealed up. That is, they are ready to burst into flame at the slightest trouble — such as an airplane strike by accident (they are DIRECTLY under several jet airliner routes) or on purpose. Or such as an earthquake stronger than they predict, and a tsunami (which could provide the moderator needed to slow the neutrons down, and allow a criticality event in the spent fuel after an earthquake jostles them together, in this writer’s opinion).
So come to this hearing. Learn why babies are perhaps a hundred times more susceptible to radiation’s dangers than adults (yet the standard reference for calculating radiation’s dangers to a population are adult males — the LEAST susceptible of all populations!).
Learn why fetuses are perhaps a thousand times more susceptible to radiation’s dangers — because their cells are differentiating and determining their future, adult’s cells are already specialized in their function.
To make things truly safer, we MUST shut the plants down.”

NRC to Meet Public to Discuss San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Steam Generator Issues NRC TO MEET PUBLIC TO DISCUSS SAN ONOFRE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION STEAM GENERATOR ISSUES The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold a public meeting on Feb. 12 to discuss the status of its review of Southern California Edison Co.’s (SCE) proposed plan for restarting San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 2. The plant, operated by SCE, is located in San Clemente, Calif. The meeting will be held from 6-9 p.m. at the Capo Beach Church, 25975 Domingo Ave., in Capistrano Beach, Calif. The facility has seating for 1,100 persons and parking is free. NRC staff will meet with the public to discuss the status of its inspection and technical evaluation of SCE’s response to the NRC Confirmatory Action Letter of March 27, concerning actions required to be taken by the company to address steam generator tube degradation at San Onofre. The company’s response to the Confirmatory Action Letter is available on the NRC website.

March 15, 2011 …“We’d be lucky if we only had to worry about the spent fuel rods from a single holding pool. We’re not that lucky. The Fukushima Daiichi plant has seven pools for spent fuel rods. Six of these are (or were) located at the top of six reactor buildings. One “common pool” is at ground level in a separate building. Each “reactor top” pool holds 3450 fuel rod assemblies. The common pool holds 6291 fuel rod assemblies. [The common pool has windows on one wall which were almost certainly destroyed by the tsunami.] Each assembly holds sixty-three fuel rods. This means the Fukushima Daiichi plant may contain over 600,000 spent fuel rods.”

14 Reactors in North Eastern Japan were announced to have been in a stage of Meltdown on Mar 11, 2011. Three Melted down and still are out-of-control. One other has blown up at Daiichi. Four more Reactors at 10 Clicks South (10km, 6 mi) down the road are very questionable and in the Forbidden Zone. Six more reactors in NE Japan melted slightly but recovered outside electrical feeds.
